Links I Like Lately

Some links I've marked lately.

  • We often think of Europe as small, a place where it's easy to hit a couple countries in a day, but this is taking it to a new level
  • Need a word for when your electronics cables get tangled? Or do you measure time by how long it takes to eat a banana?
  • Musical art. Enlarge the picture and take a closer look.
  • This kind of stuff is always fascinating to me.
  • I'm trying not to travel for a bit, but I still really want to get to Japan!

Links I Like

I'm back to Los Angeles this evening to wrap up my life there and catch some concerts, of course. A happy Friday to you, with some links I like.

  • I'm staying with my brother now and he's quite the techie. He talks about Bitcoin a lot and I still can't quite wrap my head around it. This interactive page and this site helped me out a bit.
  • We ALL did this.  Did it work
  • I'm still bummed I never made it to a taping of the Price is Right (they tape early in the morning during the week), but if you ever go, here's how to win if you get called to come on down!
  • This is kinda creepy, but did you know that the Nazis had a house in California? Hitler never made it there, but you can see photos of the place.
  • So many of us are cashless now, would we give to the homeless if they had a credit card reader? I've often wished that were the case.

Links I Like

I've been bookmarking things for months, but haven't shared. Here are a few things I've enjoyed reading.

  • I always think I'll cook more, but going out to eat is just easier sometimes. But if I did grocery shop, I'd want to take note of what a week of groceries in my house would look like and compare to these.
  • Orchid is the color of the year this year, which you've probably heard, but have you heard of these colors? Wenge might be my favorite shade.
  • These animals are creepy and beautiful
  • Finally, a few things to keep your 2014 in good shape: gratitude, kindness, forgiveness - we could all use a little more of those kinds of things.

Links I Like

Some stuff I've liked lately.
  • I have always had a thing for JGL and Fallon, but I am loving Stephen Merchant in this. The opening number is great and it just goes up from there.
  • I love maps and these are rad. I need to get to more SF restaurants. Number 7 is cool.
  • These wrong number text responses make me laugh SO hard. So good.
  • Nouns that only have plural forms, like scissors
  • So gross, but so cool - whale ear wax! It's like tree rings.

Links I Like

Since I'm traveling and probably not blogging, here are some links I've liked lately.

  • Apparently I live in number one! Does this mean I should stay here?
  • Have you ever wondered how long it would take you to get to Mars? Well, now you can kind of know.
  • I've read a few things from this guy recently, after he came back from a year away from the internet. How did he do it? Go find out. All his journal entries are there, or you can browse a general story
  • Kinda creepy
  • This is kinda creepy, too. I did this survey a few weeks ago to see how much online advertisers know about me and what information is relevant. I fell in line with the general results, that only about half of the info they have is correct. If you want to take it, you can install a little plug in, it'll read your browser cookies and throw some questions your way to see how much advertisers know. Or if that freaks you out, just read the results. And turn off your cookies.

Links I Like

Some links I've liked lately.

  • I came across this again the other day and had a good laugh. Does anyone else remember this ridiculousness?
  • I've got Zero Dark Thirty at home right now, and a few months ago the National Security Archive put together a book with all of the available official documents about the pursuit and capture of Osama bin Laden.
  • Do you want to see 10,000 iPhones fall over?  Yes, you do. Especially at the one-minute mark.
  • Abraham Lincoln, Lady Gaga, Andy Warhol - what do they all have in common?  Business cards!
  • Ah, international blunders. Big problems from little mistakes!

Links I Like

Some links I like, lately.

And guess where I run across all these things?  Google Reader. WHICH IS SHUTTING DOWN. Have I told you how angry I am about this?  REALLY ANGRY.

Still looking into alternatives, and I guess I have a couple months, but still.  So. Angry.

Okay. Rant over.

Links I Like

Some links I like lately (or at least over the last couple months).

  • I find North Korea really fascinating and am still bewildered over the recent Dennis Rodman visit. This girl took a trip as part of a delegation and detailed her whole Pyongyang experience
  • Web hoaxes are everywhere lately, and it's turned Taryn into an online detective. Read about her hoax exposures
  • Airport codes are dear to my heart. Someone put together these codes in a clever way.
  • I would've liked to see this big swing exhibit in NYC!
  • Jiro Dreams of Sushi was a great little film, and Questlove went to Japan to meet Mr. Jiro. Of course I had to start following him on Instagram.

Links I Like

Some links I like lately:

  • Did you know that you can get text messages from NASA that tell you when you can see the International Space Station in your sky?  I just signed up!
  • Next time you're in NYC, go visit an apartment building from one of these favorite TV shows. To this day, I have still never seen a full episode of Seinfeld....
  • I had some good laughs looking at the past - things from the 90s that we thought were sooo cool.  Lamesauce.  I totally had that Aladdin game.
  • This guy tried following everything that's trendy, according to the NY Times.  We're talking British slang, numerous pillows, gap teeth and man buns and man waxing.  Ouch!

Links I Like

Some links I like, lately:

  • I was scared of rabies as a kid after crying my way through Old Yeller.  As a grown-up, you should be scared of the costs if you so much as get brushed by a flying bat.
  • I love J Crew and I love Williamsburg and here's what happens if you try to put them together.  I was very amused by this article.
  • I think this has already made headline news, but dudes, you might need to take a pregnancy test.
  • Sometimes I feel like this guy, down to the rug from Istanbul.  As a single lady, working from home, in a city I still consider new to me, yeah, this it what it's like sometimes.  Another reason I don't really want to move again and start over.
  • More than half of LA could've written this article.

Links I Like

I really miss Google Reader's feature of sharing articles with the friends who follow you. There was some good sharing going on and I learned some new things.

Google+, you're just not cutting it.

So maybe from time to time I'll do this sort of thing - share links I like.
  • I've always wondered what it would be like to be color blind.  Go look at some of Van Gogh's work from a color blind lens.
  • Marmots - cute or scary?  I can't decide.
  • I'm kinda sad I missed this event in Santa Monica.  Though I've had the online experience and seen the best video.
  • Best airline (Emirates) + best plance (Airbus A380) + best cabin (1st) all in a tour.  Wow.
  • I'm only guilty of a a couple of these.
